Terms & Conditions ¶

1. Acceptance of Terms ¶

By downloading and using Undertone ("the App"), you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the App as downloaded from the App Store.

2. What the App is ¶

• Undertone estimates a daily "screen mood" from how you use your phone, and offers ways to change it: suggestions, app locks, an evening wind-down and family sharing
• It is a wellbeing tool. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for professional care
• Mood words, patterns and suggestions are estimates made from the signals you allow. They can be wrong
• If you are struggling, please talk to someone you trust or a qualified professional

3. Use of the App ¶

• You may use the App for personal, non-commercial use only
• You agree not to reverse engineer, modify, or create derivative works from the App
• You are responsible for the choices you make based on what the App shows you

4. Locks and shields ¶

• Mood locks, the wind-down shield and family pauses use Apple's Screen Time frameworks. They depend on Apple's software and on the permissions you grant
• A lock can be ended early from the App. Shields are meant as gentle friction, not as a security or safety control
• Do not rely on a shield to keep anyone away from apps they need in an emergency

5. Family features ¶

• Linking a child's phone needs the child's device and the parent's device, each signed in to its own Apple Account
• By linking, the parent and the child both agree to share what the App shows in the family view: the child's mood word, pattern tags, a short summary without numbers, requests such as "a gentler evening", and the rules a parent sets
• Please use the family features openly. The child sees the same view the parent sees
• Parents are responsible for setting up the App on their child's device in line with local law and their own family's rules

6. Apple Intelligence ¶

• Ask Undertone and the daily and weekly write-ups use Apple Intelligence. Answers are generated automatically and may be incomplete or inaccurate
• These features need a supported device, language and region

7. Subscriptions ¶

• The App is free to download, and today's read is free. Personal+ adds weekly, 30- and 90-day trends and the weekly reflection; Family+ adds the family features for up to five children
• Subscriptions are billed through your Apple Account and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• Yearly plans may start with a free trial. If you don't cancel during the trial, the subscription starts at the end of it
• Prices are shown in the App and may vary by region
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings
• Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies

8. Intellectual Property ¶

• The App, its design, text and software belong to Drobinin Limited
• Your data belongs to you

9. Disclaimer of Warranties ¶

• The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
• We don't guarantee any particular outcome, change in habits, or change in how you feel
• Screen Time, Apple Health, Apple Music, iCloud and Apple Intelligence are Apple services, and we are not responsible for their availability or accuracy

10. Limitation of Liability ¶

• We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
• Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App or subscription in the previous 12 months

11. Changes to Terms ¶

• We may change these terms. Material changes will be flagged in the App
• Continued use of the App means you accept the updated terms

12. Termination ¶

• You may stop using the App at any time. Settings > Delete my data removes your data, as described below
• We may suspend access to the App if these terms are broken

Privacy Policy ¶

Undertone is a small indie app. It works out your mood on your device, keeps family sharing inside your family's own iCloud, and has no ads, no analytics SDK, no tracking and no account.

Plain summary ¶

The signals Undertone reads (Screen Time thresholds, Health, Music, Calendar) are processed on your iPhone or iPad. The one exception is the weekly reflection, which may be written by Apple's Private Cloud Compute (section 2). We don't run a server that receives any of it, and we can't see your mood, your history or your family's data. The only outside services involved are Apple's (iCloud, Apple Intelligence and, for one feature, Private Cloud Compute) and a subscription service that knows whether you've paid.

1. What Undertone reads, and where it stays ¶

Screen Time (required)

• You choose which apps belong to which group (social, entertainment, games, news, productivity, restorative) with Apple's picker. Apple gives the App opaque tokens, not app names
• Apple's Screen Time framework tells the App when a group's minutes cross set steps (for example 15, 30 or 60 minutes), and when you try to open an app you've locked
• The App never sees what happens inside an app: no messages, no searches, no pages, no content
• Where Apple grants the App Screen Time data access on your device (currently only in the EU), it may also read per-app usage totals and pickups on your device. They stay on your device
• Usage totals shown inside the App are drawn by a Screen Time report extension that Apple runs in a sealed sandbox on your device, so the App itself can't read them

Apple Health (optional, read only)

• Sleep, steps, exercise minutes, mindful minutes, and State of Mind entries you have logged elsewhere
• Used on your device to weigh the day. Undertone does not write to Health

Apple Music (optional)

• Your recently played songs and library play dates, so what you listen to can colour the day
• Songs are judged by an on-device model. Nothing about your listening is sent to us

Calendar (optional)

• Event times and titles, used on your device to tell how busy a day is
• Today's events are also part of what the weekly reflection may send to Private Cloud Compute (section 2)

Notifications (optional)

• Evening summaries and wind-down reminders are scheduled on your device

2. Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute ¶

• Ask Undertone and the daily narration use Apple Intelligence on your device. Your questions and the answers are not stored
• When you ask for the weekly reflection in Insights, the App may send it to Apple's Private Cloud Compute: the week's moods and patterns, plus today's details (app-group minutes, Health readings, what you listened to, and calendar event times and titles). Private Cloud Compute runs Apple's model on Apple servers built so that the request is not stored or made available to Apple or to us
• If Private Cloud Compute isn't available, the reflection is written by the on-device model or from built-in text
• We never send your data to any other AI provider

3. iCloud ¶

• Your mood history and settings stay on your device. iCloud is used only for family sharing, and not at all if you never link a family
• Family sharing uses a shared iCloud (CloudKit) zone between the child's and the parent's Apple Accounts. It holds only: the child's mood word, pattern tags, a short summary sentence without numbers, requests such as "a gentler evening", and the rules a parent sets (paused apps, as Apple's opaque tokens, and thresholds)
• When a child creates a sharing code, a record holding that code and a link to the family share is kept in the App's public iCloud database for 24 hours, then expires
• The child's messages, searches, app content and app minutes are never shared

4. Children ¶

• A parent can set Undertone up on a child's phone. The App asks Apple's Declared Age Range for the child's age band, with the parent's confirmation
• We don't collect children's personal information on any server of ours. What a child's phone shares goes only to the linked parent, through iCloud, and the child sees the same view

5. Subscriptions ¶

• Purchases go through the App Store. Card details never reach the App
• A subscription-management service (RevenueCat) receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase history and basic device and app details such as the OS and app version, so the App knows what to unlock. It isn't linked to your name, email or Apple Account

6. What we don't do ¶

• No ads, no analytics SDK, no tracking, no data brokers
• No account to create, and nothing sold or shared for advertising
• Apple may share crash reports and aggregate App Analytics with us if you've opted in to sharing with developers in iOS Settings

7. Deleting your data ¶

• Settings > Delete my data wipes everything the App keeps on your device, removes its records from your iCloud, and removes the shared family zone
• Deleting the App also removes its on-device data
• To delete what RevenueCat holds about your purchases, email us and we'll trigger it within 30 days

8. Your rights ¶

• EU/UK (GDPR): you can access, correct, erase and export your data, and complain to your local supervisory authority. Almost everything lives on your device or in your own iCloud, where you control it directly
• California (CCPA): nothing about you is sold or shared for cross-context behavioural advertising

9. Changes to this policy ¶

Material changes will be flagged in the App. The "Last updated" line at the top shows the latest edit. The current policy is always at drobinin.com/apps/terms/undertone/.
